World Press Freedom Day gig a success

About 300 showed up for Centre for Independent Journalism, (CIJ)'s inaugural World Press Freedom Day Celebrations at Central Market over the weekend. The two-day event starting June 3 featured live music performances by 22 local bands, who performed for free in support of freedom of expression. CIJ Executive Director, Sonia Randhawa said the event was to celebrate the possibilities available to the public to claim their freedom of expression. The event was also the occasion for a press award presentation, namely the Most Confusing Coverage-Kambing Hairan award and Most Boring Entertainment Writer-Kambing Bosan Award. Rafil Elyas, vocalist for 360° Head Rotation presented the award to Sonia Randhawa who received them on the behalf of Harian Metro and Berita Harian.
